WELCOME TO MY SITE!
I'm so happy you've found me here. I hope you love what I create as much as I love creating it. It is my passion and purpose to make beautiful, colourful, and strong artworks. I put my all into my paintings. They're full of many emotions, thoughts, and dreams. I hope you find something that takes your fancy.
MY STORY
Being a creative type since childhood but without the creative nurturing that some people are fortunate to have, I was raised by a hard-working single father focusing on making sure there was food on the table, paying the bills and making sure two very young girls had all the necessities in life. However there was always the nudging natural urge to be creative coming from within but never knew how to act on it. As I got older, I realised I really loved being creative, and as time went on, I pursued this more and more. I had worked on a few paintings here and there to decorate my own home and in doing so imagined the feeling of working as a professional artist and how satisfying and rewarding that could be. In my earlier years I worked as a freelance makeup artist and then almost went into interior design after studying that, but after relocating to Queensland and designing and building a new home in 2010, I then invested my time into art seriously instead. |
Working intuitively, I'm a very visual and bold mixed media artist. My works are abstract and sometimes incorporate colourful acrylic painted collage
elements. I create unique one-of-a-kind artworks. Lately my chosen colours have evolved to more subdued tones alongside my usual brighter palette. More to come on that soon.
I love working in my home studio on the Gold Coast in Australia with my new studio buddy Laila. Always keeping me company, Laila was somewhat naughty as a pup and challenged me immensely as she needed some good training, but she's the perfect studio dog now and has kept me sane for sure as painting is quite a solitary occupation. Pictured with me here though is my now passed and beloved Bella.

HOW I WORK
I work in mixed media. I've learnt by experimenting with lots of different mediums that I love acrylic paints and mixed media works. I try different techniques all the time and I'm extremely visual. My large abstract paintings begin in an expressive way. I love to see how textures interact with each other and paint bonds to textures and fabrics. One of my favourite things is seeing how colour vibrates when against another colour - that’s exciting! I absolutely love colour! I am usually guided by colours and the bold contrasts of materials. Whether it's canvas, wood, paper, collaged elements, plexiglass, resin, fabrics, hardware items, recycled objects, assemblage, you name it, I use anything and everything in my work. I love the raw nature of materials to achieve texture in any way possible. Creating depth of textures and colours are exciting to me. Thinking outside of the box is what I am about and where my passion and curiosity reside. My art can include scratched, sanded and weathered/worn areas of paint. I do enjoy the simplicity of a piece too, so you could find a bit of everything with my work. It really depends on what I'm inspired to create. I'm an artist for the collector who likes to see a diverse range with a colourful and playful vibe. My process is intuitive and ever evolving, I don't plan it. My intuition takes over as I step through it. The creative process for me is something inside me that takes over until I'm happy the work is done. It may take days, weeks, months or even years on some pieces. I find the work speaks to me and tells me when to keep going or to leave it alone. When I abide by this way of working the creative path always presents itself eventually. If I go against it, then it can end in disaster! So, listening to the energy I feel about it to guide me is a must. |
Most recently, as pictured here with 'Cherry Blossom', I've been creating digital abstract work as well. It's a media I can use during very busy periods and get to a point of completion more quickly. Digital also has the benefits of being very highly detailed in prints of any size.
If I can share anything about what I’ve learnt so far, it's that I must do something art related every single day, even if it's just tidying up my space and being in the studio. Also, an effective technique for me is to have multiple pieces on the go at one time. When I need to have a break from one painting, I can move onto another. Ideas seem to spark this way and help with not getting myself into a creative block. And if all else fails I just paint on a new substrate without the care of what it may look like!
